Sequence 12: The Wild Dog Retaliates

37. Monkey Stance

(Hou Shih)
Withdraw your body weight on to your left leg, and draw back your right leg. When the right foot stops moving, raise your right toes but keep the right heel in contact with the floor. Bend your left knee. Rotate your left wrist so that your left palm faces upward, and sweep both hands outward and sideways, bringing them both round in an arc to a position in front of the chest with both palms facing forward.

38. Dog Stance

(Kou Shih)
Lower the toes of your right foot and place your body weight on to your right leg. Straighten your arms as you sweep both hands away from your body, at shoulder height, until your right hand points directly to your right with the palm down, and your left hand points directly forward. Swing your left leg forward and upwards, ensuring that you keep your leg straight, until your left foot touches the palm or fingers of your left hand. (If you cannot lift your leg that high, don't worry — do the best you can.)

39. Leopard Stance

(Pao Shih)
Let your left leg swing down to a position diagonally to the left of your right leg, and as soon as it touches the floor put your body weight on to it and slightly bend your left knee. Your right foot should remain flat on the floor, but straighten your right leg. Swing both arms upward and to your left, clenching both hands into fists, and bring them to a point just above the level of your left shoulder. The insides of your fists should face one another.

40. Dragon Stance

(Lung Shih)
Move your right foot forward a few inches, bend your right knee, and place your body weight on to your right leg. Open your right hand and swing it upward, above the level of your head, then forward and down until it is in front of your right shoulder, with the little finger edge pointing towards the floor. At the same time your left fist should arc forward and down to a position in front of your solar plexus, with your left elbow still bent.
