Yin Kuo (pinyin - Yīnguǒ 因果)

Very few people in our modern society turn their eyes inwards and look at themselves at all, and even fewer look at and appreciate everything that happens in each second of their lives.

Therefore, if you should go under, by becoming emotionally upset, deeply depressed, losing your temper, resorting to violence, or just hating others for something that they have said or done, then you have definitely failed in the struggle to control yourself, and you have also failed to strengthen your mental and spiritual self. So you will be punished for your bad thoughts or deeds, for this an automatic retribution (Yinguo). But you will also get more and more tests in the future until you have proved that you are strong enough to get over that particular hurdle, and the others to come, and that you have developed the will to take everything in your stride as it comes along, with the same smile, the same calmness of attitude, and the same outlook on life — just as you have learnt to accept night and day, rain and sunshine, plants growing and dying, and the good times in your life.
