Cloves (丁香 Dīngxiāng)

Cloves have been used in cakes, puddings and sweets for many centuries, and most people will find them a bit strong and spicy. They contain quite a large amount of essential oil in the form of volatile oil, which is used extensively in Chinese medicine. It is, quite a powerful antiseptic, and will greatly assist people who have lazy bowel systems and constant flatulence. It can also be used with great success against pulmonary tuberculosis and bronchitis. Because it has such a warming effect on the body, it helps to alleviate pain, and those illnesses caused through internal coldness.
