Mint 薄荷 bòhe, traditional 薄荷
Every housewife or herbalist uses mint at some time or another. It is added to food and used in teas, soups, soft drinks, sauces, wines, sweets and even bath preparations (in some cases it is the oil and acids extracted from the leaves that are used). It is soothing and cooling to the system and very beneficial to the digestive organs, for it eases flatulence and helps to increase the appetite. It expels internal fevers, activates perspiration and reduces swellings.
For medicinal purposes the whole plant is used. Mint tea (薄荷茶 bòhe cha) can be drunk three or four times daily, are can be used externally for bathing inflamed parts of the body.
