Chinese Yam (中国山药 Zhōngguó shānyào)
Only the long angular stem tubers are used in Chinese herbal therapy, and when they are used as an infusion they give the tea a rather sweetish taste. The tubers contain many soluble fats, starch, glutamine, and quite a number of amino acids. It nourishes the lungs, kidneys, stomach, spleen and pancreas, and therefore it is used to combat asthma, bronchitis and emphysema. In addition anyone suffering from chronic enteritis or dysentery will find this herb of enormous benefit, as will those who suffer from leucorrhoea and those who tend to be neurotic
A complete book could be written about this herb, which has been used in China for well over 5,000 years, and a number of mythological tales have been built around it and its healing qualities, which are manifold. It can cure or relieve very many complaints.
